Even 4k_grubby can lose big groups! (4k_grubby 9d vs. bionic 9d)
Background:
Many suspect that 4k_grubby is, in fact, Gu Li 9d from China. In the pro world, Gu Li may be considered to be among the best by a lot of people. If 4k_grubby is, indeed, Gu Li 9d, 4k_grubby's game record on Tygem goes to show that being a 9d there is certainly brutal! Even with only 9 wins out of the last 11 games, 4k_grubby's record cannot be said to be bad. There are simply a lot of strong 9d opponents on Tygem.
The white player here, bionic, has an identity unknown to me. He seems to be from Korea, and is at the very least a strong amateur. His record for the last 20 games is even better than that of 4k_grubby. His userid can be found in the 13th class of the 6th Tongyang tournament shown here: http://www.tygem.com/Tongyang6/gametable_chn.html. He was defeated in his first game on October 27, 2008 by a Japanese player by the name of akiresuken.
This game ends with an unexpected (by me) cut at L15, killing a large group of black stones. The cut seems to have been a surprise by black as well, as the top group at L9 seemed to be safe after the capture of the L11 stones. But in the end, black was cut off. Is black really Gu Li? In either case, both players certainly put up a good fight!
The tygem spectators also seemed to have similar confidence in both sides, making a 50-50 split in the betting.
