A new challenger appears????

Hello good people of Go!

I, Wasiqi, present another story for your hopeful enjoyment.

As Go players, many of us have had times, when Go has taken a back seat to other things in life. Maybe we got a highly demanding job or got involved in a new relationship. Maybe both...as is the case in today's story. As I was roaming through the various rooms of KGS, I was directed to a room known as the European Go Brigade. There I noticed a certain individual and overheard a challenge that made quiver with excitement. Our story today is about a young Go player named Adante, who rose rapidly to the dan levels. Then he had to take time away from Go to attend to other matters in life. However, one opponent he faced inspired him to begin taking Go more seriously again. He could not forget this opponent who he has so much respect for.

Adante: “I think within a year's time...I'd be in a position to be a serious challenge.”

Who is the opponent? None other than the person in the game above...Fernando Aguilar!

While he stands at 2D now on KGS...will he be able to reach 6d within a year's time? He does seem to be motivated...and his rival was later seen to be in the European Go Brigade room....perhaps this is a sign of things to come?

Let's all look forward to this potential rivalry.

First I'd like to say that catching up like that is not easily done, especially so in the dan-levels. Going from 2d to 6d usually takes a lot of time, in which I think a year is way too short of a time to accomplish such a feat.

Second, the game that is shown here, shows adept resistance for a while but later (as many weaker players often do) they collapse in either greed or arrogance. In this case it looks like greed.

You got to love Adante's positive outlook though. ;)

A year is long though, maybe the guy will manage to win with handicap but when it comes to even games I highly doubt that it will happen anytime soon. Seeing as aguilar is not the drunk type of player, although he's getting older (and some say he's losing his touch thanks to that.)
