breakfast wins the Baduk Cup of Consul General of Korea!
The
3rd annual Baduk Cup of Consul General of Korea took place a couple of days ago
in Saint-Petersburg (Russia), on October 8-9th, and it was attended by around
100 participants, including very strong players such as Oleg Mezhov 6d (Diplomat on KGS), Dmitry Surin, Alexey Lazarev
(who was the Russian Champion many times) and our very own Alexandre
Dinerchtein (breakfast).
The
most important games were relayed on KGS by KRconsul1,
with live videostream. The second day was by far the most exciting one:
Alexandre Dinerchtein faced Alexey Lazarev in the 4th round, and the result of
that game proved decisive in the outcome of the tournament. The game was quite
complicated, but exciting to watch because of the unusual start:
"two" Chinese Openings, with a sort of Mirror-Go influence (http://files.gokgs.com/games/2011/10/9/KRconsul1.sgf).
Black (Alexandre) eventually won that match.
The
game that you can see here was played in the fifth round. Dmitry Surin was
probably having a bad day, because this time he had no chance against
Alexandre! You can see that Black was completely destroyed...
B27
(E3) was severely punished (D3 was
such a powerful move!). White could fight actively because he was thick around.
W56 (G7) was also really painful for
Black. After W78 (C12), the game was about over...
It
is always fun to see a European 6-dan being crushed :).
In
the final round, Alexandre won again (against Igor Popov 5-dan), so he
finished in first place. [Congratulations for the great tournament
performance!] As far as I know, the prize fund exceeded $1200. (Alexei Lazarev
placed second, and Alex Vashurov, 5-dan, third.)
It
was an exciting tournament for us!
