I think that IGS is best of all servers. Period. I don't have any problem finding opponent whenever I log on, maybe when I reach 8d it will be a little difficult. There are plenty of strong players. I don't know what those people are talking about when they say that they could not see strong players on IGS. That Cornel gets close to top 1 does not mean IGS is weak. If you look at his games, he mostly plays handicap or blitz games, which damages the confidence of his rank. If he were to play 1/10 game with 7d+, I don't think he could have much edge.
On the other hand, KGS is a seriously overrated place. Only a few high dans are there and they usually only play blitz games like move in 10 sec. I don't understand why people play that kind of game, and that is the main reason I don't like KGS. On IGS, when you get a challenge from a high dan, usually sufficient time setting is assumed.
The funniest comment I saw was that someone saying he had to create new accounts often because this is a hard rating system. Why couldn't he hold on to his original account? if one could not get promoted, that means -- YOU ARE NOT THAT LEVEL YET. study and think, when you get better, you will get promoted.

Just a couple added comments to this endlessly fascinating topic :)
Regarding teaching. I've had all my online lessons on IGS. It's great for teaching and review.
Regarding ratings, I think KGS is generally closest to AGA ratings, at least at the kyu level. I Wbaduk very challenging, perhaps because of the highly aggressive, "unorthodox" style, but great fun because of it. Perhaps IGS ratings have softened at the top, but my sense is that ratings are generally several stones stronger than AGA. But is is true that the rating system is very sluggish.
Regarding my "ceaseless blather" comment, if that isn't clear to non-native speakers of english, I mean the constant irrelevant comments during games. Thank goodness for Multigo, which allows me to delete all comments with a single click. Clearly a feature designed specifically to deal with KGS games!
Lastly, I hope my criticism is not taken as ingratitude. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the people past and present that make it possible to play go around the clock with people all over the world, for free!

I really hope IGS doesn't wither away. In some ways I think it's the best of the servers. For instance, I find it by far the easiest for identifying interesting games and watching them live.
The standout feature of KGS is that they archive all non-teaching games. (Why can't IGS do this? The storage space required has got to be insignificant). The down side of KGS is the ceaseless blather.
Wbaduk/Oro is great, at least partly because it shows the passion for the game in Asia. Perhaps the most notable thing about Wbaduk, and the one that the other two servers would do well to emulate, is the effort to be responsive and become 'the best baduk server in the world'. I was approached online by a member of Wbaduk staff and had an extended conversation about what I liked and disliked about Wbaduk, and what changes I thought would make it more appealing to western go players. !!! Can you imagine such an approach by KGS or IGS ??? The very thought goes beyond lol; if someone at IGS or KGS approached me that way I think I would literally fall off my chair!

Not even the IGS>KGS claim holds these days. Seeing Cornel in the top 10 says a lot about the IGS decline. The pros really disappeared from there.

I don't quite know what you mean. Certainly there aren't as many high dans as cyberoro, but it's a much smaller server. There are certainly more high dans on IGS than KGS at any given time.

In 1997 - the year I came to Korea, IGS was VERY popular here! Neostone server was second
Now most Koreans play on Cyberoro or Tygem.

I agree, it is nearly impossible to see 7d+ players in a game.
