himountain 9d vs. zchen 8d
In a game played two days ago, himountain (9d) - White played a long game without komi against zchen (8d) -Black. Himountain once again showed his unusual fuseki style. White's first two moves were played in the center near the tengen point.
Himountain is a rather new player on KGS, having registered only 2 months ago. His/her identity is unknown but we are able to see his/her e-mail address, which doesn't give us any clues about who it could be.
W.8 may have been a misclick, or perhaps White tried to give Black even more of a handicap. Fortunately for White, Black answered incorrectly as b.11 should have been played at b.21 (E16). After b.29, White got more than 20 points in the corner and we can see that Black still had some weaknesses there. W.30 was a strong move.
B.51 was a mistake as Black started an unnecessary fight in the center which helped out White. A close attack isn't a good strategy in this situation. It would have been better for Black to play a normal fuseki move at w.216 (L3).
After White captured the big black group on top with w.128, White was ahead by a few points. In the end, White won this game by 3.5 points.
It's possible that this mysterious ‘himountain’ is a professional. If so, against a stronger player it’s very unlikely that he/she would play this unusual style of fuseki. Perhaps he/she is experimenting with a new style of play under a new registration name.
