Advices on improving from PeterPan2, 9-dan
Advices in his KGS profile are so good! I decided to copy them here
Tips on how2 get better: A. Learn Best Moves: Study Pro-games (SmartGo.com or MasterGo.com: 48,000 Pro-games+Joseki search engine) B. Study KGS 9d "even" games against [3 to 10 stones] weaker players, where only 1 side makes mistakes C. All other games [below 8d, unfortunatelly] have SO many mistakes that U will B getting familiar w/ lousy moves, thus getting used 2 & learning them, but remembering them later as if they were good moves :-( D. Yr level is always = 2 yr "reading ability"; no way around it, sorry. So, get better at reading: Do 5 to 10 GoProblems.com daily. Playing is fun but it will NOT help U get better :-( E. Join KGS Teaching Ladder, Lessons Room F. Don't B cheap: Become a KGS+ member & enjoy weekly lectures; but beware, only the text-lectures are GREAT. But since you'll B a paying customer, U could request (to Glue & Jyem) more of the good ones ;-) G When watching [hopefully only 8 or 9d] games: Try to guess the next move (instead of making irrelevant kibitz ;-) and then try to understand why you missed :-( H. The Ultimate: Invest in yourself & get professional instruccion (preferible in groups, since privates are more expensive :-(
